The Story of Moray

Moray carries a long tradition of tea growing in the highlands of Ceylon, shaped by its cool climate, fertile land and generations of skilled cultivation. Known for rich, full bodied black teas, the estate continues to combine established craftsmanship with responsible practices that protect the character and quality of every harvest

The Tea Story

Where Every Cup Begins

High in the tea country of Maskeliya and Upcot, Moray has been shaped for generations by elevation, rich soils, cool air and water flowing through the surrounding hills.

The Place

A Landscape Made for Tea

Moray lies around Maskeliya and Upcot, where tea has been cultivated since the late 1870s. Rich soil and high elevation give the estate its growing conditions, and waterfalls and lakes run through the landscape around it.

The Leaf

It Begins with the Leaf

Tender young leaves are selectively harvested by hand, so the quality of a tea is decided on the slope long before it reaches the factory.

The Region

Shaped by Dimbula

Dimbula turns through two distinct climatic periods: cool and dry from around December to March, and heavy rain for part of the year. Teas from the region carry natural notes reminiscent of jasmine and cypress, and brew to a reddish, golden-orange cup with a refreshing, mellow character.
